Harvest is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing
and certifying the use of environmentally and economically
sustainable agriculture practices through the development
of stringent,
transparent
and quantifiable
standards, incentive-based
eco-labeling and public
education.
Incentive Based
Farmers are under increasing pressure to minimize their expenses
– or lose the farm. While most farmers would like to
adopt BioIPM practices that minimize environmental impacts,
these practices are often more labor intensive and expensive.
Being able to market a crop with the Protected Harvest label
gives farmers the incentive they need to grow crops with minimal
pesticides, so they can receive a fair return while maintaining
their competitiveness in the marketplace. The result is affordable
and environmentally friendly food – realistically obtainable
by farmers and consumers alike. The result is environmentally
friendly food that is realistic for farmers to produce and
affordable for consumers to buy.
