Ann Sorensen is Assistant Vice President for Research for American Farmland Trust. She also directs AFT's Center for Agriculture in the Environment. Founded in 1980, AFT is a national non-profit membership organization that protects productive farmland and encourages healthy farming practices. The Center, operated jointly with Northern Illinois University's Social Science Research Institute in DeKalb, Illinois, serves as the focal point for AFT's public policy research efforts.
Before joining AFT in November 1992, Sorensen spent six years as assistant director of the Natural and Environmental Resources Division for the American Farm Bureau Federation in Park Ridge, Illinois. From 1984 to 1986, she was an integrated pest management specialist for the Texas Department of Agriculture. She also did postdoctoral research at the University of Georgia and Texas A & M University. Sorensen has a Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of California at Berkeley and continues to maintain her certification in entomology as a board certified entomologist. She has published many scholarly papers, served on numerous committees and spoken frequently on agricultural and environmental issues.
