| New partnerships
in California Protected Harvest recently
received a grant from Region IX of the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) to establish standards for dairy, almonds, tomatoes
and stone fruit in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Over half the country’s fruits, vegetables, and nuts
come from California, with the San Joaquin Valley being one
of the most productive agricultural regions.
Protected Harvest will work with grower groups
to develop aggressive standards to reduce air and water pollution
from agricultural sources, and in turn, certify and market
the crops with the Protected Harvest label. Our intention
is that their success in marketing their crops with the Protected
Harvest label will serve as a stimulus in the widespread adoption
of sustainable agriculture that will have an immediate and
far-reaching impact on the quality of the environment in that
region.
